Somebody Chopped the Cherry Tree...

Legend has it that George Washington, America's first president, chopped down a cherry tree in his youth. His father saw the damaged tree and asked his son if he knew who did it. George was quoted bravely admitting the truth:
'I can't tell a lie, Pa; you know I can't tell a lie. I cut it with my axe.'

Below is a satire of how some Malaysian politicians circa 2008 may have reacted to the same question:

Abdullah Ahmad Badawi - 'I did not chop down that cherry tree; I was just taking a nap under it.'
Najib Razak - 'I swear that I have never MET that tree.'
Hishamuddin Hussein Onn- '...but I only own a keris ,not an axe; so how to chop down that cherry tree?'
Dr Mahathir Mohamd - 'Apa nama cherry tree, yes, I chopped it down because, I don't like the idea of Pak Lah sleeping under it.'

VK Lingam - 'It could be me, it may be me but I don't think it's me.'
Anwar Ibrahim - 'I did NOT do it, and I am not giving any DNA sample for you to plant on the axe handle.'
Mohd Khir Toyo - 'The new state government should just trim the grass and not waste time asking who cut the tree.'

Ahmad Said ( Terengganu MB ) - 'I chopped it down because cherry trees are more expensive to maintain than durian trees.'
Azalina Othman - 'Cherry tree is not included in my tourism MOU so I chopped it down. Besides, there are so many unauthorised signboards being put up by Ah Long around that damn tree.'
Shabery Cheek - 'Not me. I challenge you to an open debate on tree cutting.'

S Samy Velu - 'I chopped it down because Hindraf members were using it as a meeting point.
Wira Ali Rustam - 'We have planted durian trees for 50 years and we will plant them for another 50 years. We do not need cheery trees, apple trees , pear trees and all these other foreign trees.'
Rais Yatim - 'You must see the bigger picture, Ahmad Said said cherry trees are expensive to maintain; Ali Rustam said that's against our national identity and, I needed to test my new axe; so you see, it is a WIN-WIN situation all around.'
Sharir Samad - 'I cut the tree because we could no longer afford to subsidise it.'

Karpal Singh - 'The bigfoot creature did it.'
Bung Mokhtar - 'The big monkey did it.'
Pandikar Amin Mulia (Speaker) - 'There is nothing in the standing orders against chopping cherry trees. Kinabatangan duduk, Bukit Gelugor duduk.

Khairy Jamaluddin - 'I did not do it, neither did the Mat Rempits. By the way, what's a cherry tree?'
Lim Kit Siang - 'Cherry tree also you don't know; you are an insult to Oxford !'

Nazri Abdul Aziz - 'Racist, racist, racist! When we cut down durian trees nobody made a fuss. Now...'
Malaysian Citizens - 'Oh for heaven's sake! Somebody please plant something before we all starve to death!'

Notice Board

Our school has a "Anugerah Kecemerlangan Sekolah" event to award students who did excellent Academically & Co-Curricular competitions...this is alsot the day SMK Hamid Khan show the parents of the school as many parents will come.One of the steps is the notice board competition.All uniform bodies & clubs were compulsary to change their respective notice board for that day..

I was involved in 3 notice boards...SCOUT,CHRISTIAN FELLOWSHIP & SCRABBLE.I was the secretary of the scout so I was more involved in the notice board although i received a considerable amount of help from my fellow committee.

(Saik Ian & Me)

SCOUT NOTICE BOARD:

(Thanks to the committee for helping!)

Our scout notice board is divided into 4 parts.Notices,Photos,Patrol list & Committee list,We constructed a frame using bamboo and used "square-lashing" knots to make the frame.We placed 2 scarf(purple & yellow),badges and replica scout knoting to enchace the board.On the left is our scout troop logo and on the left is the World scout logo.Our 39 GT(S) word is made out of satay sticks.

CHRISTIAN FELLOWSHIP NOTICE BOARD:

(CF Notice..thanks to Esther & Clarence)

The CF notice board is really a good effort from those who helped..especially Esther.She is the secretary of CF and manage to complete 99% of it in a day!One thing surely strikes people passing by is the cross.It was made out of paper pieces using "Colaj" style.The notice board is once again splited into 4 main parts using the cross as a frame.On the upper left is the committee list and the left is list of activities the SMK Hamid KHAN CF has done so far..

On the bottom left is photos I manage to get like our Mid-Year holiday CF Camp and a school group photo for our upcoming school magazine.On the left was supposedly for notice but so far we have none...yet!

SCRABBLE NOTICE BOARD:

(Thanks to Jonathan for the effort!)

Credit must be given to Jonathan Yeoh for almost single-handedly took up the task to help make the scrabble notice board.It was a good effort for someone who took a whole night in preparing the materials and constructing the notice board.

The notice board is basically not in a ordered format and free-flowing.The "SCRABBLE" word is placed vertically on the left using Scrabble font and that was done by me. ;)
The photos were also donated by Jonathan and me.Jonathan printed out a photo of our scrabble shirt and a photo of himself in a scrabble game.I printed out the scrabble group photo as I manage to get it since I am in the editorial board of our school magazine.(grin)
Kabian made the effort to go and develop our photo of us with the Challenege Cup trophy and it can be easily identified as the best and biggest picture in the notice board.

On the orange part of the board is our committee board..I was the asst secretary,I only knew it on that day!On the right is reasons why scrabble is fun.(p.s. #3 was suggested by Edvin Saw)
1.Improve our English language
2.Get to met new friends.
3.HAVE FUN!!XD
On the bottom part is a promotion of an internet scrabble game.Wordbiz.
I suggest anyone reading this post try downloading this game :D
I'm looking for competitions...

THE END...

KEM ANUGERAH KEMAHIRAN PENGAKAP

I just came back from the camp that was held from 20-21 August 2008.This was my turn to be the camp chairman for the year and man it was a fullfilling experience not only to me but to the whole committee and the participants.The camo was held annually to test the scouts knowledge and we tested them by theory and practical.If they pass all the requirements they are awarded a green scarf(for junior scouts) and red scarf(venture scouts).

This is the camp commitee list:

Camp Chairman:
Aaron Cheong

V.Camp Chairman:
Adrian Hong

Secretary:
Ooi Saik Ian

Treasurer:
Goh Liang Fu

Quartermaster:
Jasa Richie

Main Tester:
Edvin Saw

Pre-Camp(19 August):

Today the committee will come to the camp site first to prepare everything we need to ensure a smooth running of the camp.First of all,we make sure everything we need like 1st aid box and "tongkat"(for test) and scoreboard are taken down from the troop room.

At night it was the do-or-die mission,3rd AGM.To make it sweet and simple,everything went kinda well and 4 of the troop committee,Ooi Saik Ian,Edvin Saw,Me and Jasa Richie are officially the commitee of the troop.

1st Day(20 August):

Today is the 1st day of camp and I am in charge of coordinating the camp.Everything went ok although there's some hiccups here and there...however one incident nearly make the whole program went chaos.

During our backwood's man program,a heavy rain poured down and almost everybody's fire went off and are forced to find shelther in the canteen.In the end we asked them to cook their backwood's man stuff and man the canteen was freaking dirty!!We took 30 minutes just to clean up that part of the canteen!!

After that it was my "Peta Topo & Arah mata Angin" theory test.It is basically testing the scouts on their knowledge on using the map and coordinates.However,many people were struggling to do the test as it is quite hard.Even my scout master said my paper was a little bit too hard for the junior scouts to swallow.

Later that day we gave some theory and practical test.I dropped by Edvin Saw's base which is CPR. ;)

We basically ask them how do they react and their procedure when they saw a person unconcious somewhere near a roadside.

The twin brothers at their best ;)

Late at night, we quickly prepare for tomorrow's program and mark the papers that the scouts has done.Edvin Saw,Adrian Hong,Liang Fu and me also took our "red scarf" test since we did not came for the camp last year.The papers were quite tough but nevertheless I finished first...and then I went to sleep for....56 minutes because of....

Day 2(21 August):

Yes,after that 40 winks I got it was day 2 already...Today I leave the camp chariman task to Adrian Hong.I was the MC of the day as it was the last day of camp.During our first program,I and Liang Fu were in charge of "Kawad tongkat" and man we were "steaming"!We nearly close our eyes and had a hard time keeping our eyes open.

At 8.oo Am,I called on the scouts for the day's assembly.I did everything nearly well except for the horseshoe as it wasn't perfectly formed and we forgot to check the scouts fingernails!!

Anyway,it was time for the Compass test and well..I had my hands full by guiding nearly everyone as they had problems doing the compass..I nearly blew up because they complained that the route I set was wrong but when I followed them,they were able to find the way.....=.='...

(This is me...killing time..)

When they were doing they're Modern-Cooking I took the time by preparing my "rambu" as promotion of being the troop's ATL Secretary.I managed to complete it in time. :D
After that I continued marking the papers...

Around 3 pm,it was "cabaran".This test is basically like a exercise drill and I was in charge of tree climbing since it was easy ;)
Everyone went to my base and almost everyone did well..I think...nothing much to say about that..

After 2 hours had passed...the whistle blewed..and every scouts quickly rush to the canteen for the closing ceremony.I was the MC and was preparing for the closing ceremony..however not everyone is prepared so I kill time by doing a survey.I asked what do the scouts feel about the camp and what test do they think was the hardest and easiet to do.

Then we proceeded with the closing ceremony.But first,we announce that the red scaft and green scarf can't be handed to the scouts that earned it cause we need to tabulate the results first and morever...they need to redo their backwood's man.
Lencana UsahaLencana Maju
First it was the Lencana Usaha & Maju award,quite a handful of them were able to get these badges and it has been ages since anyone get to war the badges.

After that was the commitee's turn,the total number of badges we can wear is 5 and only 2 of us were able to do so.
Lencana Jaya DiriLencana KemahiranLencana KegiatanLencana Jaya DiriLencana Kegiatan

Ooi Saik Ian(5):

(Received yellow Cord/rambu)

Adrian Hong(5):

(Recieved yellow cord/rambu)

Jasa Richie(4):

Aaron Cheong(3):

Goh Liang Fu(2):

And then it was the the promotion of the PL & PS.Nothing much really except that Aaron Wee was shocked that he did not get his PL badge.The reason is that he never went for TCI and he did no perform well as a PL.

And then it is our turn...again.All of us get our promotion except Goh Liang Fu.Adrian Hong will be the temporary treasurer and if Adrian Hong succeeds then he will the the ATL treasurer.If not then Goh Liang Fu would be.BTW,Mr.Khoo Boo Leong,the person who was in charge of handing all the awards announce that someone in the committee has successfully passed the red scarf and he will show it by wearing it during the rank ceremony.It turn out to be me!! I was kinda shocked but very happy

Troop Leader:
Ooi Saik Ian

ATL Tester&Duty Master:
Edvin Saw

ATL Secretary:
Aaron Cheong

ATL Quartermaster:
Jasa Richie

After that was the end of the camp.The committee stayed back to clean up the campsite...after that I,Saik Ian and Edvin waited for our parents to fecth us home.We chit-chat a little bit until then.

This is all the adwards I recieved!!

Challenge Cup prize ceremony...

After the scrabble competition on 6 August 2008,today is the prize ceremony.I also found out that SMK Hamid Khan is overall champions!! Woohoo!! We even defeated PCGHS!!We seriously can't believe it but it happened.It was also the finals of the Public-Speaking competition.

Anyway Benedict was also there for the public competition and man he really did great in it.The way he speaks and present himself was awesome.In the end,he was thr 1st-runner up.Not bad....

Nothing much happened after that,except I went to Prangin mall to get my phone back from repairing the software.I was quite happy that everything was fixed. :)

Hopefully next year we can defend the throphy and make SMK Hamid Khan proud again!

YAY!!!!!

Today is the day...the day of judgement...if you were a pessimists then that would be what you would have said.But since I'm more on the optimistic side...it's actually the Dato' Seri Dr. Hilmi Yahya Challenge Trophy Scrabble Competition.

I,Kabian,Jonathan and Lye Aun represented our school and we head of to the venue which is ICT(Island College of Technology) in Balik Pulau.When we reached there,we met many of our friends(most of them from the CF camp last May).Some of them include Benedict,Scott and Gladys.I also met some of the PCGHS scrabble friends like Sher Lynn and Hsieh Zhen.I also catch up with CGL friends like Sophia & Xin Fang.

Anyway we had out breakfast 1st before the briefing.Essentially the competition is any typical scrabble competition.So after that we head off for our games.

GAME 1:

I met this girl from SMKAI by the name of Lim Tsiu Fhang.Before the game I chatted with her a little bit..nothing much,just some casual talking.

The Game was like any other games I played.I had some advantage..use my 2-3 letter word memory to good use and win,although by a pretty small margin.

W:1 D:0 L:0 /My Score:335 Oppo Score:268/Spread:68/Cum.Spread:68

Game 2

THIS IS THE BEST GAME I EVER PLAY IN MY WHOLE ****ING LIFE!!!
Want to know why?
Easy...I got pretty good tiles....she always opens up generously for me...she got time penaly....AND I GOT 2 BINGO!!!!
FUELERS and STOKING!!!!And my total score was 570!!

W:2 D:0 L:0/My Score:570 Oppo Score:104/Spread:466 Cum Spread:534

Game 3

Right now...I'm so far 1st!!!But I'm gonna play against Aw Yi Lyn,who is the head in scrabble in her school CGL.It has quite a tough match,a good game.She hentam me with a bingo though...NUGGETS...took some beatings but managed to catch up.However she got the upper- hand and I lost the game...with dignity...

W:2 D:0 L:1/My Score:299 Oppo Score:371/Spread:-72 Cum. Spread:462

Game 4

The previous game really motivated me now...I'm pretty much fueled up to get to the highest as I could.I was competing against Gladys Ho,who by the way went to the CF camp too.We chit chat a bit and I found out she was taking SPM this year.

During her 2nd turn...she hentam a bingo for me...REGAINS.The gap was 70 points long,I took a steady streak and manage to catch her up easily!!She open up quite a few precious one and I took it all the way from there!

W:3 D:0 L:1/Score:352 Oppo:Score 236/Spread:116 Cum Spread:578

Game 5

Oh My goodness...I'm competing against Donovan??That's a surprise.He used to be in SMK Hamid Khan until he went to MBS for his Form 6.From what I heard he was quite good.

For his game,I took on a serious game....I really need to beat this guy!!I want to get as high as possible...and I did it!I dominated the game right from the very,very beginning and I place a bingo too!FOOTERS,it scored 65 points.Oh man was I bloody happy,I gave him one hell of a ride and went on to beat him nicely.The game was my 390 against his 268 with a spread of 122.

Final Score:
3rd

W:4D:0 L:1/Spread:700

Wohoo!!This competition was really a fantastic one.I thank everyone who helped me directly or indirectly and importantly to God as he grant me the will to go one even after relatively mediocre results in previous competitions.

By the way...all of us were in the TOP 10!!Wohoo!!I was 3rd,Ang Lye Aun was 4th,Leng Kabian was 5th and Jonathan was 7th.Hsieh Zhen was the champion as she won all her games and by a pretty good spread margin..400+ i think.Sher Lynn was 6th after Leng Kabian.

Saturday all of us were required to be present for the prize giving ceremony.According to the organizers the Dato' himself would be there to give out the prize.I would really look forward to that day to see who is this guy so powerful until a competition named after him.
